The Poetry autumn/winter range for 2018 will be available in stores and online
from April. This year’s collection features luxuriously feminine pieces with
wistful, contemporary influences that draw inspiration from the historical le
marchand des quatre saisons – the market of the four seasons.

The fresh produce markets of by-gone eras were places of everyday
wonderment, where people from all walks of life would congregate to touch,
taste, smell and purchase their daily staples from the delightfully eccentric
folk who manned abundantly stocked stalls. From crotchety old ladies selling
zucchini flowers and sun kissed peaches, to silent mountain men with bushels
of fragrant mushrooms and truffles, it’s the singular combination of these fairytale
characters and their dewy-fresh wares that provided the vibrant colour
palette inspiration for the Poetry AW18 collection.

The shapes & colours of dreams to come

The AW18 collection, of which 37% was locally produced, was designed with
the contemporary woman in mind. She is a force to be reckoned with,
without ever being out of touch with the femininity that fuels her singular fire.

The winter’s key neutral is grey, with primary red and ochre yellow that add
vibrancy to the overall seasonal palette. Dusty pinks underpin the collection’s golden thread of delicacy, while olive and forest green provide the organic notes that tie it all together.

Key movements for the upcoming season include chunky knits that make for an effortless addition to the coveted layered look. Florals take centre stage on long maxi dresses and pair wonderfully with interest fabrics like velvet.
Apparel items that were historically perceived as evening-focussed now
make an easy transition to daywear – think sequin skirts under longer-length coasts, and everyday silhouettes updated with lavish accessories like faux fur scarves and plush velvet gloves.

TOP TIP: Ochre yellow and primary red are key colours for the season and
top-to-toe colour dressing is a wonderful way to highlight these earthy tones.

A dash of everyday splendour

Key pieces that are bound to cause a stir this season include a sweeping
maxi dress in a gorgeous botanical print, a voluminous ochre-yellow parka, as
well as cardigans in unexpected coat styling and a stunningly feminine wrap
dress in dusty pink. Not to mention the grey Prince of Whales check suit with
its stylish, structured trousers and blazer that deserves a top spot on
everyone’s ‘must have’ list and can be dressed up or down to wear just about
anywhere. Velvet is also bigger than it has ever been, and this versatile fabric
has been applied to trousers, dresses and blouses alike.

The Poetry winter coat collection caters for all occasions. For easy wear,
there is the throw-on, open-end, lightweight long line coat; while the short
sleeve tie-belt coat is tailor-made to round of the ultimate layered effect and
perfect for showing off this season’s variety of enticing sleeve details.

A trove of top-to-toe treasures

As for shoes and accessories, the Poetry women is spoiled for choice this
season. The main focus for winter will always be boots, but this year there’s
also plenty to enjoy in terms of transitional styles. Key trends are high ankle
boots, hardware, combat boots, block heels, ballerina pumps, stud detailing
and suede in rich colours such as berries, blacks, and tans with pops of
emerald and rust. Look out for the contemporary feminine Olivia and
Caroline loafers, as well as the Eva, Mila and Candice heels. Some inspiration
was also borrowed from the boys to tailor monk-strap and lace-up shoes for a
more structured look.

Once you’ve laid the groundwork for your AW18 outfit, it’s time to let your
personality shine by customising it to reflect your innate taste and style. This
season, delight in a range of lavish accessories that add the punctuation to
your life’s narrative. The exclamation marks of excitement! The full stop after a
style statement. The delicious ellipse that lingers when you’re leaving things
open-ended… Dot those Is and cross those Ts with super chic velvet gloves,
wool berets, faux fur stoles, pom-pom beanies, oversized winter scarves and
tassel earrings.

This season’s foremost bag silhouette is definitely the cross body
leather purse in a variety of shapes, ranging from the classic envelope
to the contemporary bowler, each crafted to cherish-it-for-a-lifetime
perfection.

DID YOU KNOW? The humble earring is one of this season’s most important
accessories. Poetry offers a range of styles to suit every taste and face shape,
including tassels, studs, drops, and beautifully delicate pieces.
