In keeping with what’s hot this season, Old Khaki has infused their spring/summer
2018 collection with the heart and soul of a sultry, hot tropical summer in old
Cuba, reflecting the “buena vista” to be found in brightly painted facades and
vintage cars parked on cobbled streets that echo with the sounds of a fiesta.
Nowhere is this more evident than in their take on the iconic Havana shirt with
palm-tree prints and the array of embroidered off-the-shoulder summer dresses
made for dressing up, or down. The collection is launched with a vintage-inspired,
washed-out palette of summer pastels before progressing to a high summer
palette of bold magenta, orange and tropical colours.
SS18 womenswear at Old Khaki
This summer’s colours include millennial pink, summer berries, yellows, olive green
and shades with a dark base accentuated by vibrant prints. Think vivid floral or
jungle prints on a dark base with contrasting white tops. Shorts and dresses will
provide cool relief on a hot day.
“Picture dark jumpsuits, worn on their own or offset with a fresh white T-shirt underneath, or shadow-patched, mid-wash skinny jeans or bright blue stretch jeggings teamed with a loose off-the-shoulder top. Pair culottes with comfortable sneakers or sandals,” says Old Khaki’s womenswear buyer, Dalene Gourley. “Our new range of embroidered, off-the-shoulder dresses is just right for easy-wearing on a hot summer night, and then there are our fabulous kimonos, perfect for slipping into after a day at the beach – a first for Old Khaki.”
New to the women’s denim range are trucker jackets and shorts in a choice of
three lengths, ideal for matching with one of the new lightweight knits and woven
tops that, too, are either printed or embroidered. The improved fabrics and fits
give their new denim a casual but de-luxe look. For the first time, Old Khaki is offering women a choice between sun hats and caps with floral detailing.
SS18 menswear at Old Khaki
The Cuban theme is present in the menswear range, too, that makes use of
graphic and tropical prints. Keys to the range are colour combinations that pair
millennial pink and summer berries with olive green and charcoal, or yellow with
navy and olive.
“These fresh new colours are used throughout our range, from our signature check
shirts and golfers to printed T-shirts and shorts,” says Amy Hope-Sotherton, Old
Khaki’s menswear buyer. “It’s definitely the season of prints made new with a
variety of micro prints coming through to create the illusion of a textured fabric,
rather than a specific print, especially on shorts. Another important trend is dark
floral/tropical prints, which we incorporated on shirts, T-shirts and shorts. Cotton,
linen dominate across categories, some with extra stretch to ensure a cool, stress free
summer.”
The Old Khaki man can also look forward to pigment-dyed, acid-washed and
stone-washed branded T-shirts and a wide range of utility and chino shorts.
The men’s denim range features four styles of jeans, all with improved fit. The Joel
skinny, Nash tapered, Mayson narrow straight and Jordy regular straight are all
available in a range of vintage washes.
The bright blue Mayson narrow-leg and powder blue, light-washed Joel skinnies are perfectly on trend.
An exciting new addition is Old Khaki’s swimshorts that come in four styles with two colour-blocked options – navy and sage, or charcoal and dusty pink – or floral prints. The shorter lengths, elasticated drawstring waists and mesh inners will ensure a comfortable fit.
Accessories
In terms of accessories, Old Khaki has a cap for every man with details such as 3D
embroidery, raised rubberised prints, micro-branding and Old Khaki’s signature
groat in various applications.
Footwear
The summer’s women’s and men’s footwear were selected to be worn throughout
the day, from an early-morning catch-up with friends over coffee to a party in
cool comfort. Their off-duty shoes will be a welcome addition to any casual
wardrobe.
For women, there is a great variety of sandals featuring lace-ups, gladiators,
sliders and espadrilles – summer’s quintessential slip-on-and-step-out shoe. More
sturdy, but no less stylish, are their sneakers that include options in tan, grey, navy
and pops of olive green to echo the season’s fashion colours.
Sneakers make up a big part of the men’s footwear range, too, with a choice of
blue, grey, olive or black. In addition, staples such as Caterpillars are back on the
shelves, as are wrap sandals, thongs and fisherman sandals. Old Khaki has onduty
days covered, with classic lace-up styles that can easily take your outfit from
day to night.
