Congo : To the West, an oasis called the Lake Kivu Lodge…

Located in the capital city of North Kivu, only a few steps away from the city centre. The “Lake Kivu Lodge” Hotel is a small paradise, where one would almost expect to come face to face with writer Ernest Hemingway, if like you, he had the chance to reside here.

Right after the parking, there is at the corner of a small paved road hidden behind some tropical vegetation, a large deck overlooking the Lake Kivu, while on the horizon stand the sensual curves of the hills of Masisi and Idjwi Islands. White tablecloths are waving under the breeze while the chairs covered with flamboyant colours cushions invite you to have lunch or dinner with colleagues, friends and travellers.

The dock by the lake is an invitation to swim for the more energetic. Take a dip in the azure waters, resurface and enjoy the landscape of hills beyond. Then wrap yourself in a warm bathrobe, before stretching out on comfortable deck chairs. Paradise in other words… Just before being served a hearty breakfast, overlooking the colourful garden flowers.

On some of the rooms’ balconies overlooking the majestic lake, rocking chairs allow guests to escape or check their emails through IPads at their disposal. But do not forget to save some time for contemplation. Enjoy the view and the comings and goings of fishermen who cruise the lake in the early morning. Or just let the beauty of the sunset inspire you, when they come back with their fishing nets filled with some wriggling sambazas.

Comfort is absolute. The bedding was reviewed. Magnificent canopy beds, adorned with small fluorescent stars will welcome your nights. Everything is delightful. Each room is equipped with sophisticated furniture and, among other things, a coffee machine, a weighing machine and a TV. On the towels are sewn the hotel initials and a collection of soaps, shampoos and body lotions is nested in small black and white baskets hand-woven by Congolese “mamans”.
