Alternating journalism and communication, Caroline Barth sees life as an incredible journey of initiation. Inspired by Madagascar, where she was born, Côte d’Ivoire, where she lived, and Mauritius, where she has lived for 15 years, she questions in her first novel “And from the tree of our lives the sap still beads” the links that connect us beyond absence and time.
Mauritius, beautiful and plural
What fascinates her in Mauritius is the feeling of travelling across the world on a confetti island, lost in the Indian Ocean. She loves the mosaic of peoples and cultures, from India, China, Africa, and Europe, the Nature that is so present, the pictorial language of Creole, the villages with singing names (Bois des amourettes, Beaux Songes, Poudre d’Or, Gris-gris, Bel Ombre…).
She chose Tamarin for its softness of life, its light, its sunsets, its waves, its mountains, its forest. Charles Baudelaire was marked for life by his brief pilgrimage in Mauritius.
“There, everything is nothing but order and beauty, luxury, calm and voluptuousness”, sang the poet of perfumes, colours and sounds, in his “Invitation to Travel”.

Yan de Maroussem will take you on a journey to discover Mauritius off the beaten track, its mountains, its gorges (Black River), its waterfalls… Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Le Morne is worth the climb. Symbol of resistance of the slave trade, this basalt monolith offers a breathtaking view of the lagoon, which appears painted with a brush in a monochrome of blue.
