Jack’s Camp Makgadikgadi was created by the legendary character Jack Bousfield, one of the continent’s great explorers and adventurers. There are only ten tents and this very exclusive camp is one of only two permanent camps in Makgadikgadi in Botswana.

Jacks Camp is located in Botswana, in Makgadikgadi Pans, which is one of the largest salt marshes on earth. The remote Makgadikgadi Pans is located on the southeast side of the Okavango Delta and surrounds the Kalahari Desert.

During an expedition to the Makgadikgadi in the 1960s, Jack Bousfield came across a site that captured his imagination so much that he settled under an acacia tree with the unshakeable hope that others would feel the same way. A remnant of one of the world’s largest lakes, the Makgadikgadi dried up thousands of years ago due to the continuous movement of the earth’s crust.

Created in the 1960s by Jack Bousfield, a bush enthusiast, Jack’s Camp has been completely renovated to become an exclusive lodge with an “Out of Africa” atmosphere.

Located in the north of Magkadikgadi Pan, in this once green and now desert region of salt marshes, Jack’s Camp offers ten comfortable tents and an unforgettable experience. A true oasis of civilization in a particularly harsh environment, the camp, designed with authenticity and elegance in mind, is reminiscent of safaris of the early forties: feather pillows, immaculate sheets, precious wooden furniture and Persian rugs all contribute to creating a unique and memorable atmosphere.

The tents are placed in such a way as to offer maximum privacy and a perfect view through the palm trees and acacias, although a number of them are located closer to each other and are ideal for families. The bathrooms, which offer the comfort of hot water, particularly popular on safari, are equipped with indoor and outdoor showers.

The camp is located on a small hill with a breath-taking view of the rolling meadows on one side and the salt marshes on the other. The covered swimming pool in an elegant tent is the ideal place to enjoy the view of the region and keep an eye on the small pond in front of the camp. All animals and birds in this often water-poor region regularly visit the water point.

Meals are served in the mess’s central tent, a real museum, where chefs do wonders to prepare delicious breakfasts, light lunches and three-course dinners. Jack’s also offers a recently redesigned cellar, which features a selection of delicious South African wines.

It is one of the most original and exciting camps in Africa, located in a truly fascinating region. The camp is well managed and the activities are endless, although it should be noted that apart from migration, it is not a typical destination for “big game”.

Safaris are exceptional and experienced guides – from natural scientists to Boshiman guides – will help you understand and appreciate the formation of this amazing desert. The dry season will allow you to search for fossils on a quad bike while you can enjoy the spectacular phenomenon of wildebeest and zebra migration during the southern summer.

You will also have the opportunity to spend time with the Bushmen Ju’Wasi, who first accompanied Jack to the area. Walking with the Bushmen is an unforgettable experience and a great way to discover their fascinating way of life.
